Satu and Jarko Mattila are change agents of the Pirkanmaa region. Together with others, they have created an eco-village where about 30 people live permanently.
When you start something like that, you obviously enter a fascinating journey because everything is going to be questioned. It’s a life time adventure where you’ll have to re-think the food system, the energy consumption, the quality of the buildings, the dirty waters management, the relationships between the co-founders and the neighbours obviously.
Situated in Vesilathi, in the middle of the Finnish countryside, Kurki eco-village is a beautiful place yet accessible by bus from Tampere and open its doors to all during summer with a Summer Cafeteria (open every saturday from 11am to 2pm).
The village is also a small melting pot as every year a group of international young adults is joining for several months to learn more about eco-life. To learn and share about the journey more with other eco-villages in Europe, Kurki is also part of the Global Eco-villages Network.
If you’re interested, you can also follow them on Facebook (Kurjen Ekokyläyhdistys) and Instagram (kurki_ecovillage)

This inspiring conversation is sponsored by Pirkaanmaa Liito. During several months, a group of change agents from Tampere and Pirkanmaa met on a regular basis to share their vision and suggestions to make the region more sustainable. These events are part of Ecological transition in Pirkanmaa -project.
