Often people say that in Finland it’s so common to not say "hello" to your neighbor, even after looking at each other briefly in the eyes, right? That’s part of the culture shock but that’s also hard for some Finns because turns out that the young generations are way more social!
One thing is being willing to be left in peace, and another one is to be a bit afraid of the Other.
It seems to me that the entire life journey is a discovery of the right balance in relationships, with anyone. There is always an Other, one that is different. It can be your neighbor, your kid, your aunt, your boss, your BFF... In that journey, the tools invented by Marshall Rosenberg with Non-Violent Communication to prevent or resolve conflicts can be of great help to learn a bit on how to connect and engage better with all the Others in our lives.
The purpose of our next event is to build bridges between all of us, especially for all the foreigners that are living here and who are contributing to the dynamism of the city and the region and who wish to be more sustainable.
You’re very welcome in a space of safe and creative dialogue about a topic that matters to us all.
It’s happening on October 28th, 5-6:30pm online. The conversation is not archived nor recorded.
“Every criticism, judgment, diagnosis, and expression of anger is the tragic expression of an unmet need.”
― Marshall Rosenberg
He outlined the core of non-violent communication or Giraffe language (as opposed to Jackal’s). You can explore a bit on-line here.
Tomorrow, we’ll explore the NVC tools box, the "who’s right" game, the difference between empathy and sympathy, and a few tips to help you implement a bit of NVC in the daily life.
Let’s talk about it more tomorrow!
