Tampere has been for a long time an industrial city and there is a lot to do to make the urban community more sustainable in a short period of time. The actions have been so far very focused on carbon neutrality.
I warmly invite you to explore and connect with Tampere City’s initiatives related to sustainability.
First of all, the Carbon Neutral Tampere 2030 -roadmap voted in August 2020 is a must read. You’ll understand clearly the complexity of the problem of carbon emissions here and the strategy developed to solve it. I really recommend that reading to you.
"The purpose of the roadmap is to describe the city’s measures to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. The wide range of actions taken by residents, businesses and communities or by the state and other public bodies are not described in this roadmap."
Kestävä Tampere website in English:
Sustainable Tampere 2030 [City of Tampere - Smart Tampere]
"Tampere aims to be carbon neutral by 2030. This means that Tampere will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent compared to 1990 levels and that the remaining 20 per cent will be compensated by increasing carbon sinks, such as forests and green areas."
If you are running a company with products or services for the City or the region, don’t hesitate to join the partnership for climate change presented on the Climate partner - Tampereen seudun ilmastokumppanuus.
Ekokumppanit is mandated by the City to organize events connecting the citizens with these companies (info event about your electricity bill, or the waste management, for example). They also have Eko-live events in Finnish inviting experts to debate one specific topic. All these corporate and City organized initiatives are presented on Ilmastosankari and Kestävä Tampere, the City’s FB group for sustainability with 1 200 followers. Check also their activity here.
Here at Sustainable Tampere, the Eco-Impact Events are proposed in English to citizens with the support of Tampere City - which is great! Ekokumppanit is also organizing some Eco-Impact Events at Metso.
Sustainable Tampere is also a group on FB with 400 members at the moment (link here).
Near Lielahti, the area of Hiedanranta is meant to become an eco-zone in the city. The process is happening progressively and I suggest you keep an eye on it as several interesting things are happening there all around the year related to sustainability.
