Infinited Fiber is tackling the recycling clothes challenge.
The technology can "turn textile, cardboard and agricultural waste into new and better cotton. The brand-new fiber can be circulated infinite times while preserving 100 % quality".
Their new plant in Valkeakoski is now building up. They are expecting the first fashion brands to launch their Infinited Fiber based capsule collections in 2020!
It’s interesting to understand why they chose Valkeakoski:
"The key benefits of the Tervasaari mill site are:
– bioenergy availability when we develop the production close as carbon neutral as possible
– effluent treatment plant for sustainable wastewater management
– maintenance operators, material logistics, security and other industrial infrastructure on site
The purpose of the 500-ton Valkeakoski plant is to provide fiber for testing and small capsule collection launching purposes for the global brands and their manufacturers."
On Independence Day, Dec 6th 2019, "the Interior Minister Maria Ohisalo enters the Presidential Palace annual reception tonight in Helsinki wearing this gorgeous evening dress made from IFC’s material and designed by Anne-Mari Pahkala."
Maria Ohisalo says: “I am proud to wear a Finnish circular economy innovation. We need solutions to cope with the escalating textile waste problem caused by fast fashion. The problem can be solved by increasing the life cycle of garments, developing repair and rental services and by innovations for recycling the textile waste.”
